The medieval village La Garde-Guerin is located in Lozere, on the GR700 Regordane way or St Gilles way (GR 72 trail) and the Cevenol trail, along the Chassezac River between Villefort and La Bastide Puylaurent.

Chassezac River, a tributary of the Ardeche, runs in very deep (400 m) granitic gorges below the medieval village of La Garde-Guerin, inside the Cevennes National Park, 35 km east of Mende and 40 km WSW of Aubenas.

Several climbing sites can be found in the narrowest part of these gorges. They offer o total of more than 60 equipped routes, 20-100 m, 4c-7a. Equipement is recent and reliable, however some great routes may require nuts and « friends » as a complement. The place is extremely wild (no visible civilisation) and deserves a visit by itself.
